We were able to have the opportunity to go to the Winter Olympic games in Gangneung. The map above shows how far we had to travel. It took us about 2 1/2 hours by car.
We left before the sun came up.
A beautiful mountain river we saw on our way.
Mountains we passed through. The roads do not go over the mountains, they go through them.
Coming up to one of the many, many tunnels we went through.
Some tunnels were very long. I think the longest was about 10 kms. As you can see they try to keep your attention with rainbow lights and blinking lights. The road at times in the tunnel had rivets in it so when your tires went over it you could hear a tune. It was interesting.
We finally arrived.
The first place we went was to the LDS church's helping hands building.
It was very cold. This little booth outside cooked people a little pancake like fish with beans or cream inside of it. It was really good.
They had a world map where people could put a ribbon on the area they were from. Missionaries from the Seoul Mission ran the helping hands place. We are in the Seoul South Mission so our missionaries could not come.
There were several things to do at the helping hands place. Elder Burr was able to get on these skis for a picture. They had a family history area, a place where you could send a postcard home and they paid the postage. Then upstairs in a big room they had the Olympics on a big screen TV, lots of literature to read, a cute craft for people to make and snacks and hot chocolate. They also had a place for people to recharge their phones and just sit and get warm. It was really nice.

The line to get in. It took us over an hour. It only cost $3.00 to get in.
There were long lines even to take a picture by some things, so we just stood way out from it. Did I mention it was sooo cold.

Our group we went with. From left to right: Tolmans, Wrights, Reeces, and the Burrs
It was a long walk up a steep hill. Our group is spread out.
There was a lookout at the top of hill. The town is very beautiful.
There were these kinds of things all along the trail. Each has a special meaning. This one is a traditional wedding.
There were lots of policemen; both walking and on horses. This one waved to us.
We did see a few crazy people there.

Hockey Center. We didn't go to any of the games. It was just too expensive.
We were so close to the ocean we had to go see it. Actually, this is the Sea of Japan.
We loved watching the waves come it. Too bad it was so cold.
One more.
Going home. The sun is setting. It was a long but fun filled day.
