Elder and Sister Burr

Mission Experiences

Second Mission
We will be serving in the Seoul South Korea mission for two years. We will be posting our experiences below.

First Mission
Hello to all our family and friends visiting this Blog. We are excited about our mission to Kharkov Ukraine. We are in the Donetsk Mission as Humanitarian/Welfare missionaries. Half of our time will be spent helping members with employment. We are also taking Russian lessons from a little Ukrainian girl twice a week. Our brains seem to be a bit scrambled but we are enjoying the process. Keep tuned in and we will keep you updated on what's happening. We are loving it here in Ukraine and we love the people. What a great experience.

This is our District Meeting. We are having a meal before we start the meeting. We all have the same tie on to show unity and the meal Sister Burr made was really good. Sister Burr is taking the picture.

The man sitting furthest away is Velery he is the one that we helped with his testimony. He was recently baptised. The Lady on the left is his wife, Natasha. She has been waiting twelve years for him to join the church. The man closest to us and the lady on the right is brother and sister Udaltsov and they are good friends of the first couple and parents of our translator. We took the table from our kitchen into the livingroom for the dinner.

We had a district talent show and there was some very professional musical talents but these are a couple of the fun talents that performed. A cute little girl first and then Elder and Sister Reed and one of our translators with his girlfriend.

This is a picture of the meal and some of the homeless that are enjoying the meal. The meal consists of a cup of oat meal with water and 1/3 teaspoon salt and 1/3 can of sardines on top. Next week they will be able to have one or two slices of bread because we will buy the bread.

This is a monument to the mothers of the Ukraine of the 2nd world war. It was erected in honor of mothers who had lost a husband or son in the war. There are over 100,000 soldiers buried here. If you listen close you will hear music and the mother's heart beat. A very moving monument.

This is a statue of Christ that they claim was made 2000 years ago. It looks pretty accurate to us.
This is a man inside the cathedral grounds singing songs and selling tapes. I bought one and we can listen to it when we get home.
This is a picture of the city of Kyiv from the top of a bell tower. In the foreground is a picture of an old Orthadox Church. There are many churches in the area that look like this one.
Now we are in Kyiv, Ukraine. We came here for training. Behind us is the new Kyiv temple to be dedictated Aug. 29th. From left to right is E/S Pincock who are Area Welfare Specialists stationed in Armenia then E/S Holmes the Europe East Area Welfare Managers out of Moscow then, of course, us. We spent a lot of time with these people training us.
Soccer statium where the European Cup will be held in 2010. The people of Donetsk are very proud of their stadium.

This is a granite ball that is floating on a water fountain. It weights a few ton I guess but you can push it and it will spin. It is by the soccer statium.
This is us standing on the highest mountain in this area of Ukraine I think. It's about 200 feet high. It is beautiful country. This is on our way to Donetsk for a couples missionary conference.
